NINA - Die Warn-App des BBK 3.5.3

The NINA (Emergency Information and News App) warning app notifies you of dangers nationwide, and also for your current location if desired. The app is provided by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK).

NINA is based on the modular warning system of the federal government (MoWaS). This system is operated by the BBK for nationwide civil protection warnings. Since 2013, all state crisis centers and many connected control centers of cities and municipalities can also use the warning system (http://www.bbk.bund.de/DE/NINA/Warnung/Warnung.html).

Note: Not all local events have warning messages available. Please contact your district or city to find out what methods they use to warn the population.

With NINA, you receive:

• Emergency warnings with recommended actions from civil protection
• Weather warnings from the DWD (nationwide for every district and city)
• Flood information (nationwide at the state level)
• General emergency tips to protect yourself and others from potential dangers

With NINA, you can select locations for which you want to receive warning messages. These will be displayed in the "My Places" overview. In the settings menu, you can set the warning level at which you want to be notified via push notification. You can also optionally receive warning messages for your current location. No location data is stored on our servers. Please note: In order to accurately display location-based warnings, NINA must be able to determine your location. In areas with poor reception, there may be inaccurate displays.

The danger zone of a warning message can be displayed in the map view. The flood information is currently only issued at the state level. The map displays all available warning messages, even if you have not selected the location.

The emergency tips contain recommendations on topics such as floods, severe weather, power outages, fires, and special hazards. Inform yourself on how to prepare for such events. You will also find behavioral instructions in case you are affected by an event. Use the practical checklists to get started right away.

Notes on app permissions:

• Access to storage (Android 8 and above): The NINA warning app offers the option to copy the familiar siren sound to your smartphone. This permission is required to allow this copying. After the copying process is completed, the permission can be removed. The permission is not required for the functioning of the warning app.
• Your location: Warning messages for your current location are only possible when using GPS, Wi-Fi, and other geolocation services. If you have deactivated these services on your device, you will not be able to receive location-based warning messages.

Important: Warning messages and information can only be received with a data connection (via Wi-Fi or mobile). If your device does not have a data connection, the last stored state on the device will be displayed.
